Background

The introduction of the Palm Operating System (OS) in 1996 redefined and validated the handheld computing category. Since that time, the Palm OS has been licensed to a diverse and growing number of companies, which have produced a wide variety of compelling devices. Thousands of programs have been written and hundreds of accessories produced by Palm OS Developers. Devices running the Palm OS, already numbering in the tens of millions and purchased by a broad spectrum of end users, continue to be developed at an incredible pace. PalmSource, Inc., as owner of the Palm OS, improves and promotes the operating system through its development, partnering, licensing, and community development efforts.

Today, we refer to a “Palm Economy” consisting of these four entities: PalmSource, Palm OS Licensees, Palm OS Developers, and the Palm OS User Community.

With the expansion of the Palm Economy and the proliferation of the Internet, a large and diverse Palm OS User Community has grown and thrived. This User Community passionately shares information through hundreds of websites and on-line discussion forums, dozens of regional User Groups across the globe, and countless individual relationships.

The Palm OS User Council was formed to draw upon and reinforce the knowledge and enthusiasm of the User Community and to provide an additional communication conduit linking the User Community with PalmSource and the Licensees.
